Glass stair treads

Glass stairs or glass staircases are becoming more and more in vogue. Specialist Glass produce glass components for glass staircase systems; i.e. glass stair treads and glass balustrade infill panels.
Glass stairtreads are generally manufactured using a combination of 10mm float and 25mm float, laminated together. A non slip surface can be achieved in several ways, the most popular being an all over sandblast and ritec coat finish. Another popular anti-slip preference is for grooves to be cut into the front edge of the tread.
General guidance for floors and stairtreads
BS 6399: Part 1
Approximately 1m² is usually considered to be a practical maximum area for each panel - due to handling considerations. The glasses should be installed with the thicker glass ply uppermost, and consideration must be given to the surface finish of the glass.
For more information or a quote on your glass stairs please email to me or call to 008615960361298 any time .

Tempered Glass
The tempering process produces highly desirable conditions of induced stress which result in additional strength, resistance to thermal stress and impact resistance.
Fully tempered glass must have a surface compression of 10,000 PSI (Annealed is below 3500 PSI) and heat strengthened must have a surface compression between 3,500 and 7,500 PSI.
The basic principle employed in the heat treating process is to create an initial condition of surface and edge compression. The condition is achieved by first heating the glass, then cooling the surfaces rapidly.
This leaves the center glass thickness relatively hot compared to the surfaces. As the center thickness then cools, it forces the surfaces and edges into compression.
Wind pressure, foreign object impact and thermal stresses or other applied loads must first overcome this compression before there is a possibility of breakage.
In the heat treatment process the key procedure is application of a rapid air quench immediately upon withdrawal of hot (1200 degrees F) glass from the tempering furnace. The immediate and sustained application of an air quench produces the temper.
A quenched condition becomes stable when the glass is reduced to a temperature of approximately 400-600 degrees F.
Tempered glass is about 4 times stronger than standard annealed.
When broken, Toughened Glass shatters into small blunt - edged fragments (dice) reducing the risk of human injury
Available in thicknesses ranging from 4-19mm (¼" - ¾")
Toughened glass sheet sizes up to 1.9 metres (75") by 3.8 metres (150"). Minimum size 280mm (11").

Double-glazed glass

Insulating glass is a multi-glass combination consisting of two or more panes enclosing a hermetically-sealed air space. The most important function of insulation glass is to reduce thermal losses, which offers many advantages: lower energy consumption, perfect transparency by reducing the incidence of condensation on the warm air side and the possibility of using larger glazed areas without increasing energy consumption ...
Production:
Insulating glass is a glazed unit composed of two or more glass panes separated by spacers filled with dehydrated air or gas. The sheets are connected by a spacer, using sealants to reduce water vapour penetration. The whole unit is hermetically assembled by a secondary edge seal which gives structural robustness to the insulating glass. The spacer contains a desiccant which absorbs humidity from within the air space. The insulating glass unit (IGU) is made manually or with an automatic plant.

Glass Materials
Clear Glass
Glass is a translucent material allows light to go through. The natural of regular glass has a slight green tone in it especially when looking at its edges. The color of the green tone is determine by the thickness and the size of glass. There are 10 different thicknesses which is for different purpose of use.
2mm = 3/32", 8mm = 5/16"
3mm = 1/8", 10mm = 3/8"
4mm = 5/32", 12mm = 1/2"
5mm = 3/16", 15mm = 5/8"
6mm = 1/4", 19mm = 3/4"
- Windows normally use 3mm to 6mm thick glass
- Interior windows normally use 6mm glass which is installed by using the woodstops or u-channel
- Table Tops normally use 6mm (Someone may use 8mm). If people use it as the table top alone, usually the thickness are from 8mm to 19mm. But most people use 12mm as a standard thickness or some people may prefer to use 15mm to 19mm for luxury.
- Glass shelvings normally use 6mm to 19mm, but it depends on the size and the weight of things that people put on it.
Safety Glass
There are mainly two types of safety glass:
1. Tempered Glass
Tempering is a thermo treatment to an annealed glass. It is normally 6 to 7 times stronger glass. When it breaks, it shatters into thousands of small pieces so that any cutting injury will be reduced to minimum.
2. Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is made by sandwiching a vinyl film in between two pieces of glass. When it breaks, the film will stick the glass together so that any cutting injury will be almost eliminated. The glass are all clear glass, however, the vinyl film in between can be in clear, white, or any other colors. The laminated glass provides an endless spectrum of transparent or translucent color.
Applications for safety glass are: Doors, windows, furniture, railings, shower doors, cabinetry, etc. especially when strength is required and movable panels, ie. swing doors.
Bullet-Resistant Glass is a transparent glass panel which combines the strength and feature of tempered glass, laminated glass and polycarbonate.

Privacy glass

Privacy glass is designed by principles of polymer liquid-crystal optics. In the natural state, liquid crystal droplets are aligned randomly in the polymer and the reflective index of liquid crystal does not match that of polymer (np ≠ ne), so the incident lights are scattered, resulting in a translucent state. When an electrical field is applied, the liquid crystal droplets reorients so its extraordinary relective index matches that of polymer (np = ne), resulting in a transparent state.
Typical applications include control room and command center for govenrment facilities, executive offices and conference room, special effects for entertainment industry, exhibition, and outdoor advertisement.

Technical - Edge Work / Polishing
Technical - Heat Soaked Glass
Why?
The heat soak test is carried out on tempered glass and is used to minimize the risk of spontaneous breakage's in situ, caused by Nickel Sulphide inclusions.
How?
The glass is placed in a chamber and is subjected to high temperatures and then cooled in a predetermined cycle this accelerates nickel sulphide expansion, and causes glass containing nickel sulphide inclusions to break in the heat soak chamber. Reducing the risk of potential breakage's when the glass is in situation.

Waterjet extends GuibangGlass ability to produce intricate and complicated glass shapes for all types of glass fabrication

GuibangGlass Announce Introduction of Waterjet Cutting Technology. Every year our glass technology unit strives to add new and useful products to our product line. At the same time we work to improve our business processes and bring awareness of our product to potential customers around the world. With the introduction of Waterjet Cutting Technology our ability to create and produce intricate, precise and complicated glass designs from three-dimensional and flat sculptures to glass furniture and special glass architectural accessories has been enhanced. Combined with our CNC diamond polishing, it will allow tremendous flexibility in manufacturing and extends the possibilities for all of our types of glass fabrications, including bent and laminated glass.Our introduction of waterjet cutting technology will be a first in Ireland. It is further evidence of our ethos 'we don't wait for solutions - we create them'. The introduction of this unique technology will mark the next phase of development for GuibangGlass who, over the past 6 years, has adopted a programme of on-going investment to become one of the largest glass producing companies in China.'waterjet is by far, the most flexible and desirable technology in our business and delivers results with amazing reliability', says Guichener, Managing Director of GuibangGlass. 'The waterjet machine, instead of the diamond wheel, uses water to cut glass. The system consists of high pressure, water, mixed with abrasives. Such pressure produces a pure working power able to cut any shape of glass or other materials. We are confident and excited about the product possibilities for the company and of course our clients.'In comparison with the traditional diamond cutting system Waterjet technology has the following advantages: flexibility, high accuracy, works on any material, low cost, lack of heat generation. Waterjet cutting is particularly 'friendly' in regard to the environment. Normally, the process is clean and does not create grindings, chips, or hazardous gases.
